Fox & Hounds Challenge Shield - 2nd Leg (16th October)
Some 21 visitors from the Ship travelled to Crondall to do battle with a good showing of 28 of our own members in the second leg of this annual competition. Despite being mid-October, the weather was wonderfully warm, dry and sunny until nearly the end of the competition. Following the usual format, 7 teams played 3 triples in the morning (21 games) and 10 teams played 3 doubles after lunch (30 games). Crondall had a tough challenge facing them; the Ship had an eight game advantage from the first leg played in May. Unfortunately, although Crondall clawed back one game in the triples, the doubles were evenly matched, so the Ship retained the Trophy for another year, winning by 7 games. Our congratulations go to the Ship for a good win played in a spirit of long-standing friendships and we look forward to another challenge in 2006. The final results were:

Club Charity Doubles (1st October)
This event was organised with the dual aim of encouraging more members to take part in club competitions and raising some money for charity. To ensure a fair chance for all, no two EPA licence holders were permitted to play together as a team. Ten teams entered, playing four timed games in the afternoon according to the "snake" system. The final results were:

Geoff Margason Memorial Trophy - Club Grand Prix (10th September)
There was a disappointing turnout for this event which unfortunately clashed with some regional and national events. However, seven club members enjoyed the competition on a sunny warm morning and the final results were:

“Bring a Friend Day” (3rd September)
The second such event this season saw much better weather than the first - in fact it was almost too hot and sticky to play! There was a reasonable turnout of 18 members and 10 visitors and all seemed to enjoy the occasion. Winners for the club were Harrison (top man) and Mireille (top lady), and those for the visitors were Mary (a friend of Geoff & Sue Dee) and Alan (a neighbour of Mireille). Let us hope that the enthusiasm can generate some new members.
Skills Competition (20th August)
This year Harrison Ash organised the event which included pointing, shooting and general petanque skills. 13 members entered. After some quite tricky tests, the results were:

Club Doubles (19th June)
On a sweltering hot day, with temperatures reaching 33°C, 11 teams entered the Club Doubles. The format was a 5 game snake with the top 2 teams playing off for the title of Club Doubles Champions.
Both Hungarian Goulash (Harrison and Gabor) and Hit and Miss (Richard and Rod) had 5 wins at the end of the snake - with plus 45 and plus 43 points respectively.
The final started off with Hungarian Goulash taking a commanding lead of 12-0; in fact they had had a chance to fanny the opposition, but Rod and Richard fought back to make a respectable score of 13-8.

Club Singles (22nd May)

Fox & Hounds Challenge Shield (8th May)
Nineteen Crondall members made their way to Owslebury for the first leg of this annual competition at the Ship Inn (see some photos). Although the weather was bright to start with, there was always the threat of rain and the temperature fluctuated between quite chilly and pleasantly warm throughout the day. As usual, triples games were played in the morning and doubles after lunch. It turned out to be a disappointing day for Crondall who are hoping to regain the Shield after losing it to the Ship last year. With an 8 game deficit Crondall faces a tough challenge when the second leg is played at home in October. The results were:

“Bring a Friend Day” (23rd April)
It wasn’t quite a washout, but the weather was miserable all day and this unfortunately influenced the number of visitors who turned up. With 8 visitors and 14 Crondall members we were still able to organise a 3 game mêlée, with a bottle of wine for each of the top scoring Lady and Gentleman visitors and for the overall winner. The pictures reflect the dismal weather conditions.

Crondall Open Doubles (28th March)
In spite of a mediocre weather forecast, Easter Monday turned out to be dry, warm and sunny. An ideal number of 32 teams were divided into 8 leagues of 4 in the morning with the top 16 being selected for the Main competition and the remainder going into the Plate. First round losers in each entered consolage events. The raffle was a great success, raising over £91 for charity. See some pictures of the event. The prizewinners were:
